On 11/26/2005 at the age of 19, Garrett suffered a massive brain stem stroke as a result of a head injury suffered in a hockey game that had occurred six days earlier. We didn’t know it at the time, but he tore the artery in the back of his neck which bled slowly and after six days the clot formed that caused the stroke.
